SomethingAdded Lands in San Diego
Something Added opens a R&D Product Development Center in US to set up next door to the giants of the footwear industry

On June 1st, 2026, we officially opened the doors to our brand-new R&D Product Development Center in Carmel Mountain Ranch, San Diego, California. Aka "Geoff’s Garage."
It is 4,437 square meters of pure engineering potential. But we didn't build this space just to have more room for activities. We built it to radically change how performance brands in the footwear industry develop products.
The Tech: Precision Tools for Bold Ideas
We have never been interested in making prototypes that just look pretty on a shelf. We build functional, high-performance parts that actually work. To do that, you need serious machinery and extreme precision.
Our R&D center is packed with:
- Advanced Additive Manufacturing: We have deployed 2 HP MJF 5600 printers, soon to scale up to 4.
- Metrology: full metrology tooling for ultimate quality control and inspection.
- End-to-end Post-Processing: Automated and advanced finishing systems that bridge the gap between raw print and ready components.
- Technical exploration assets: A dedicated suite of next-generation hardware and software dedicated purely to testing new materials, structures and ideas.
The Strategy: Right Next Door to the Giants
Why San Diego? Strategy and proximity. The US is one of the largest and most demanding product markets on earth. By setting up shop in San Diego, we are intentionally placing ourselves right in the backyard of the world’s most disruptive footwear and performance brands.
We didn’t want a distant corporate office : we wanted a collaborative playground. It is a space where design teams, product managers and material innovators can walk in, run intensive workshops, challenge existing manufacturing paradigms and co-create the future of footwear in real-time.
Two Hubs. Zero Friction.
The opening of San Diego isn't a standalone move. It completes the SomethingAdded global footprint. We now operate a balanced ecosystem designed to take brands from a blank page to global retail shelves without the usual headaches.
- San Diego is the Sandbox (R&D): This is where we de-risk innovation. It’s focused entirely on product development, fast iteration, workshops and pushing advanced materials — like EVONIK TPA, high-performance TPUs — to their absolute limits.
- Barcelona is the Heavy-Lifter (Industrial process development): our powerhouse dedicated entirely to manufacturing process development at scale, ensuring high-volume production runs without a hitch.
Step into Addi(c)tive Innovation
Whether you are an established industry giant looking to rethink your assembly line, or a disruptive newcomer trying to launch a product that everyone else says is impossible to build, the garage doors are officially open.
